A squad shaped by Cedar Grove.

After a Cedar Grove resident needed immediate medical help and the nearest available rescue squad was in Verona, a group of Cedar Grove firemen formed the Rescue Squad to provide emergency medical care and rescue services locally.

As emergency calls increased, eight Auxiliary Policemen and eight residents founded the Cedar Grove Ambulance Unit, expanding organized emergency medical service within the town.

The Ambulance Unit moved to its headquarters at Cedar Street and Ridge Road as the need for vehicles, volunteers, and dedicated space continued to grow.

The Rescue Squad moved to Pompton Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. The two organizations worked side by side, with the Rescue Squad handling on-scene work and the Ambulance Unit providing transport to the hospital.

New state regulations and continued call growth led to merger negotiations. The Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad was formed from the two organizations.

The squad continues that tradition of service through emergency medical care, public standby coverage, training, and community support.
